Corona virus: More and more camera manufacturers are affected
Many camera manufacturers are now feeling the effects of the corona virus. Ultimately, the cameras and the important individual parts are mainly produced in China. Numerous factories there are currently not working due to the risk of coronavirus.
And even in the factories where people work, some workers are not always available because they are stuck somewhere due to travel bans or quarantine measures.
Nikon announces that there will be bottlenecks in the new lens
After Canon announced the day before yesterday that five factories had to be closed by at least mid-March, Nikon is now admitting problems. It is specifically about the new 120-300 mm f / 2.8 zoom lens, which due to the „global effects of the corona virus“ could not come onto the market as planned, according to Nikon.
Actually, this lens should be available on the market from the end of February, Nikon cannot yet call a new date for the availability.
Fujifilm: Factory opened but production stops
There was good news at Fujifilm recently when work resumed after a factory in China was closed. However, even if the factory is open theoretically, only a fraction of the employees can come to work because they are quarantined or are affected by travel bans.
Fujifilm had already announced that the new X-T4 will probably experience delivery problems and bottlenecks.
Is the photokina taking place?
After the few cancellations by the trade fair organizers in Germany, the staging of photokina 2020, which is due to take place in May, continued to be contested.
Statement from the Photokina organizers
We will evaluate the recommendations of the responsible authorities regarding major events for each individual Koelnmesse event and, as before, make our decisions after careful consideration. The preparations for photokina 2020 are currently proceeding according to plan. We look forward to your participation.
We will inform you on site about sensible prophylaxis measures. We are increasingly offering disinfectants, which are the most effective anti-transmission agents. Highly frequented areas are also cleaned with increased frequency.
Qualified doctors and paramedics in our medical stations are prepared for possible suspected cases and are available to answer any questions you may have. If there is a suspicion during the event, all spatial and organizational precautions have been taken at the exhibition center to take immediate remedial measures.
